Backpage.com CEO Carl Ferrer has been arrested on felony charges of pimping a minor, pimping, and conspiracy to commit pimping.
Investigations into the adult classified ad portal are beginning to reveal just how deep the online exploitation of women and children goes. According to FoxNews.com:
- The site advertises a wide range of services, but the arrest warrant alleges that internal business records show that 99% of its revenue came from its adult services section between January 2013 and March 2015. California officials said the site collects fees from users who use coded language and nearly nude photos to offer sex for money.
- The site operates in hundreds of cities worldwide, including more than 30 in California. It collected $2.5 million per month just from California, or more than $51 million during the 29 months covered by the internal revenue reports.
Please give generously to Shared Hope International today. Although this is a major step forward in bringing Backpage.com to justice, we MUST continue to fight until it is shut down for good.
Thank you for standing with us to protect women and children from the sex trafficking industry everywhere exploitation occurs.
