What is the TVPRA and why is it important?
When the original Trafficking Victims Protection Act was enacted in 2000 it established the federal framework for combatting human trafficking and for providing critical protections to victims of this egregious crime. The TVPA also authorized funds for needed services and enforcement tools. The protections established in the TVPA have been strengthened and reauthorized every 5 years starting in 2005, however, they are set to expire if not reauthorized this year. We cannot let these critical protections for victims expire! We need your support to help move four bills through the House and Senate in the next few months to ensure the strong federal protections for trafficking victims not only continue but are expanded to address this growing crime.
