I was in a program at the Samaritan House, a women’s recovery home in Vancouver, when I was first encouraged to apply for the Shared Hope WIN program.
I had office skills from previous employment that I knew I could build on if I just had the chance … but with a past that’s hard to explain, a huge gap in employment and zero self-confidence, I had very little hope.
So imagine my surprise when I learned I was accepted! For the first time in more than 10 long years, I felt the glimmer of promise.
The WIN program gave me an opportunity to learn new computer programs and reacquaint myself with old ones. I was able to brush up on basic office skills like answering phones and filing. The WIN program not only gave me a strong resume, but it boosted my self-confidence and self-worth.
